Needless to say we may need a break from our weekend!

V-Day 2009

This year V-day started out a little earlier than normal.
I decided to try out being a kind, considerate wife who
realizes that my poor husband may not have Valentines Day
on his radar until the day of. On Monday I causally mentioned
"Doug, I just wanted to remind you that Valentines Day is on
Saturday, so if you were, in fact, intending to make a reservation
downtown you might want to consider doing that before you leave town"(he was leaving for a few days on business)
His reaction was not at all what I expected. I expected a: "OH YEA! Thanks for
the reminder-your the best!" but instead I got a: " I cannot believe that you
really think that I haven't already MADE a reservation-I have and you don't need to worry about it"
Aside from wondering when my husband became such a great date planner(he is amazing but this hasn't always been his strong point) I was thrilled that he had already made a reservation for 2 reasons: 1-reservations at any V-day worthy dining hot spot are booked weeks and sometimes months ahead downtown, and 2-I realized that we had come an
oh-so-long way from our first Feb 14th together when I expected him to plan something and that evening he turned to me and asked, unknowingly stepping into a den of angry scored woman and gnashing of teeth: "so what do you want to do tonight?"
Needless to say: HE LEARNED FROM THAT NIGHT a few things but that is all in the past!
So in the morning He said: Well today we are going to spend the morning with Cleo hiking and then we have a reservation at the Metropolitan!
Good move since it is my FAV restaurant!
So we did just that and had an amazing day together!

Symphony Fun

Recently we attended the Symphony
and enjoyed Vivaldi's Four Seasons.
This was a lot of fun and as you
can see, we ARE the type of people
you see sipping wine and discussing
classical music--at least we like
to pretend when we are in public--
inside our house all bets are off:

Fun times!

Les and I at a recent club opening downtown.....
When we were growing up people would ask if we were
twins...now we don't look that much alike do we?

My Fav winter accesory--I had to share

Doug's mom made this for me last year
and I have been wearing it ever since! Love the color, love the length,
Love the way it brings out the color of Cleo's eyes ;)
She is such a good doggie model!

Weekend Fun!

This weekend we were supposed to go snowshoing but due
to a lack of fluffy white stuff in a dog friendly
canyon we decided at the last minute to
head up to Millcreek Canyon
for a sunday hike with T & L.

A good workout and good company-all that was missing
was the glass of wine at the end!

Cheers

Eating Earlier back in Vogue-Grandma's style back in more ways than one

I often tell Doug that if only he could have met
my Grandma Bench he would understand me on a whole
different level. She was beautiful, vain, crass and
had amazing taste. She gave me my first taste of
coffee, vodka(she said so we wouldn't like it)
and eating dinner at 4:30 in the afternoon.
Whenever my sister and I would stay with her
and my Grandpa they would have "supper" at
about 4:30 or 5 at night and we just thought
that was very strange! Now, as Doug and I
get into a schedule of sorts we are attempting
to eat an earlier dinner(when he gets home around
6 ish) and I can't help but think of my crazy, beautiful,
talented and crass grandma saying:
"I told you so you little shit!"
